Messina Gelato

Messina achieves their gelato and sorbet success from using ingredients in their "raw, most natural form" - just the way coeliacs tolerate their food. Every creative flavour calling out to the queues each night until around 11pm are edible for gluten-intolerant folk, minus the usual suspects - cookies and cream, tiramisu, et al. Things have been worse. Messina bursts with ideas to feed all cravings. Think lychee and coconut on a balmy night, or white chocolate for a decadent hit.

Pocket Bar Crepes

Pocket Bar is not only a watering-hole for Saturday night watermelon martinis spent with 30-something trendoids, it's a pop art-covered, couch-hoarding, french-babbling spot to nibble (or gobble) on some crepes!

Obviously I'm mentioning this because they do gluten-free, buckwheat crepes for $3 extra. On offer is a full menu of crepes that range from the decadent and savoury (think four cheeses A++) to the light and low-fat (ricotta and mushroom) and includes of course, as they come in Paree - sweet and chocolatey, but here just a little more gourmet (nutella and coconut).

Pocket's kitchen is open late (plates were landing on tables still at 10.30pm) so if you miss the crepe opp. for lunchtime, head there for a light dinner followed by a relaxed and civilized cocktail or French wine session.

Find Pocket Bar on the corner at 13 Burton street, Surry Hills (close to the corner of Oxford Street).

Wow Cow

A frozen yoghurt shop, this wasn't you're average chain haunt.

Why?

Because the frozen yoghurt was just sooo good, so fresh and so refreshing.

The yoghurts are labelled gluten-free, however be careful when choosing your toppings ($1 per topping). I'd go for berries and fruits - as yoghurt should be accompanied by.

4 flavours of yoghurt available (original, chocolate, green tea and something like apple pie?).

For me, some of the options were a little strange but on a hot summer night like tonight, it was buzzing, so they've got to be doing something right.

A little tip that my friend informed me of: Ask for a taste tester of any of the flavours and you get a cute miniature cup and spoon, fit for a mouse-sized person! Free thrills!
